MBR Membrane Bioreactor Product Introduction

MBR membrane bioreactor is a new type of high-efficiency wastewater treatment process that combines activated sludge biological treatment technology with membrane separation technology. It uses membrane modules to replace traditional secondary clarifiers for sludge-water separation, greatly improving solid-liquid separation efficiency. At the same time, it can maintain a high sludge concentration in the biological tank, enhancing the system's shock load resistance and treatment performance. Jing'anlan MBR equipment is divided into two major series: column-type and submerged-type. It can be integrated into integrated wastewater treatment equipment and can also be used for upgrading and renovation of existing wastewater stations. The effluent quality can reach Grade A or above standards and can be directly used for reclaimed water reuse. It is currently one of the core processes in the field of wastewater resource utilization.

Working Principle

The MBR system consists of two parts: a biological reaction tank and membrane modules. After wastewater enters the biological reaction tank, microorganisms in the activated sludge degrade pollutants such as organic matter, nitrogen, and phosphorus in the water. The mixed liquor in the reaction tank undergoes solid-liquid separation through submerged or external membrane modules. Clear water passes through the membrane pores and is discharged, while sludge and macromolecular pollutants are retained in the reaction tank, maintaining a high sludge concentration in the tank. Compared with the traditional 'biological treatment + secondary clarifier' process, MBR does not require a sedimentation stage, and the sludge concentration can be increased to 8000~12000 mg/L, resulting in higher biological efficiency and better effluent quality.

Core Technical Advantages

  1. Excellent effluent quality, directly reusable. The efficient interception effect of membrane modules can completely remove suspended solids and activated sludge in water. The effluent SS is close to zero, turbidity is below 0.2 NTU, and the removal rate of bacteria and viruses reaches over 99.9%. The effluent quality is stably better than Grade A standards and can be directly used as reclaimed water for landscaping, toilet flushing, production cooling, and other scenarios, achieving wastewater resource utilization.

  2. Compact footprint, saving civil construction costs. High sludge concentration greatly reduces the volume of the biological tank and replaces traditional secondary clarifiers and filtration units. The system footprint is only 1/3~1/2 of traditional processes, enabling underground and integrated design, greatly reducing civil engineering work. It is especially suitable for new projects with limited space and upgrading and renovation projects.

  3. Strong shock load resistance, high operational stability. The high sludge concentration and long sludge age in the tank can effectively resist fluctuations in water quality and quantity, with strong adaptability to high-concentration organic wastewater treatment. The system sludge yield is only 1/3~1/2 of traditional processes, greatly reducing sludge disposal volume and costs.

  4. Automated operation, simple operation and maintenance management. The system can achieve fully automatic operation without manual sludge return operations. It is equipped with an online cleaning system for regular online maintenance, extending the service life of membrane elements. Daily operation and maintenance only require monitoring operating parameters and regularly cleaning pretreatment impurities, resulting in a low management threshold.

Applicable Industries and Scenarios

  • Domestic Sewage Treatment: Decentralized domestic sewage treatment for residential communities, office buildings, scenic areas, rural areas, etc., with effluent meeting discharge standards or reused as reclaimed water

  • Industrial Wastewater Treatment: Organic wastewater treatment for food, pharmaceutical, printing and dyeing, chemical, livestock farming and other industries, achieving compliant discharge or production reuse

  • Sewage Station Upgrading: Upgrading and renovation of existing conventional-process sewage stations, improving effluent quality to Grade A or higher standards without adding new civil construction

  • Reclaimed Water Reuse Projects: Various wastewater resource recovery projects, using MBR as the core process to achieve wastewater purification and recycling

Selection Guide

The core basis for MBR system selection is influent water quality, treatment capacity, effluent standards and on-site conditions:

  • Membrane Module Type: Submerged PVDF curtain membranes are used for conventional small and medium-capacity projects; external column-type MBR membranes can be used for high-concentration, highly polluted wastewater

  • Membrane Material: Modified PVDF is the mainstream choice, offering fouling resistance, acid and alkali resistance, and long service life

  • Process Combination: Can be combined with AO, A2O, multi-stage AO and other biochemical processes as needed to achieve nitrogen and phosphorus removal

  • Integration Form: Available in various forms such as buried integrated equipment, above-ground skid-mounted equipment, and installation in civil concrete tanks

Jing'anlan can customize the optimal MBR process solution and equipment configuration based on the actual project conditions, ensuring stable and compliant system operation.
